Are you a scientist passionate about equity, diversity, inclusion, and accessibility in STEM? Join us for I.D.E.A.S. Journal Club, a monthly gathering designed to foster discussion and broaden awareness of challenges in the scientific community.
November's I.D.E.A.S. Journal Club will surround mental health in science and research. At I.D.E.A.S. Journal Club, we provide a meal and a thought-provoking resource for discussion. This month, we will be providing coffee, tea, fruit, and pastries to snack on for an afternoon pick-me-up! The article, A mental-health crisis is gripping science — toxic research culture is to blame by Shannon Hall (2023) will guide our discussions this month. Materials will be provided so no pre-reading is required. Our discussion will explore widespread anxiety, depression, and burnout among researchers driven by toxic academic culture, discrimination, overwork, and systemic inequities.
